Why This Recipe Works:
- Busy lives = convenient, processed foods, and snacking is one of the easiest places for a healthy diet to fall apart. This maple salted walnut recipe is the antidote. Its more than a healthy snack; its more like a nutrient-dense, whole food supplement.
- Walnuts, packed with Omega-3, polyphenols, and fibre are one of the best foods for heart health, brain health, and male fertility. Read more in our article on nuts and male fertility.
- We use just enough maple syrup to add flavour and crunch, without negative impacting fertility. You’ll be consuming a single tablespoon of syrup over the course of a full week
Ingredients:
2 cups raw walnut halves (200 – 225g)
1 tbsp proper maple syrup
1/2 tbsp coconut oil, melted (optional)
1/4 tsp fine sea salt
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 160°C (325°F). Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
In a bowl, mix maple syrup, melted coconut oil, and salt. Add walnuts and toss to coat evenly.
Spread walnuts in a single layer on the baking sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Walnuts should be toasted and fragrant.
Let cool completely on the pan. The coating will harden as it cools. Store in an airtight container.
Serving Suggestions:
- Just good as a snack. A handful or two a day takes you a long way towards your goals
- Stick them on top of your porridge, chopped or whole
- Throw them in a smoothie, with some skimmed milk, low fat cottage cheese, and a banana
- Swap out for (or mix in) pecans. Nothing like maple pecans throughout the autumn or at Christmas time
